This is my first posting for Moorea Seal’s 2013 “52 lists” challenge (discovered via Notes on Paper), and I’m already bending the rules to suit myself. Instead of choosing a favorite quote, I am focusing on the whole of my list. There is a lot here—love, hope, regret, determination—and I realize I own some part of each of these emotions/qualities. But the quote that best synthesizes all this for me is Beckett’s “Try again. Fail again. Fail better.” It’s a rare day when I feel successful on all fronts and my failings are often the same thing over and over again. But, with every new day that dawns, I have renewed determination to do better than the day before, and I honestly believe that one day I will conquer my various weaknesses.
