Hint of Fall – south Florida style

This photo was taken at the Golden Aster Scrub Nature Preserve in Gibsonton, FL (south of Tampa) last Sunday. Most of the trees in our area don’t change color in the fall so it was a real treat to see this stand of maples dressed in their glorious autumn colors.

Weather-wise, this has been the best week of the year so far. Temperatures have been remarkably cool—low to mid-80s during the day and 50s and 60s at night—and it’s been extraordinarily dry as well. It just doesn’t get any better than this, especially when one is reminded that it’s usually still very hot and humid at this time of year. And, in fact, we will likely have lots more 90+ days before fall and winter settle in for good here, but this has been a nice reminder of what we have to look forward to over the next several months. After all, the winter months are why we live here!
